ECG is looking for a time-served Plumbing Engineer to join our site-based team at St James Quarter. This is a hands-on maintenance role covering the full range of commercial plumbing, sanitary ware and drainage services across the retail malls, food and beverage units and back-of-house areas. Working to a planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive schedule, you will carry out fault finding, repairs and small installation works, supporting the wider Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) team in keeping the destination fully operational for guests, retailers and tenants.

Essential duties & responsibilities

  • Routine PPM visits and reactive repairs to commercial plumbing services, including hot and cold water services, sanitary ware, taps, cisterns, flush valves, sensor fittings, urinals, showers and macerators.

  • Pipework repairs, alterations and small installation works in copper, MDPE, plastic push-fit and press-fit systems, including isolations, draining down, refilling and recommissioning.

  • Maintenance of above and below ground drainage – clearing blockages, rodding, trap and waste repairs, gully, interceptor and grease management checks, and monitoring of pumped drainage installations.

  • Water hygiene duties in line with ACoP L8 / HSG274, including temperature monitoring, flushing of little-used outlets, TMV servicing, showerhead descaling, tank and calorifier inspections, and accurate completion of the site water hygiene logbook.

  • Fault finding and first-line diagnosis on booster sets, pressurisation units, water heaters, circulating pumps and associated pipework and valves, escalating to the Lead Building Services Engineer where required.

  • Attend escapes of water, leaks and blocked drainage as a priority – isolating, containing and making safe to minimise disruption to trading units, public areas and the hotels.

  • Daily / Weekly inspections of Plant Rooms, Tank Rooms, Pump Rooms, Risers and Car Parks. Plant room status & cleanliness checks, reporting leaks, defects and remedial works for quotation.

  • Accompanying and assisting specialist sub-contractors around site for PPM/reactive works – including water treatment, drainage, grease trap and sprinkler contractors – arranging access, isolations and permits to work when instructed to do so.

  • Operate a tablet device in conjunction with ECG’s CAFM system ensuring all PPM and reactive tasks are completed timeously, with accurate labour, material and asset information recorded against each task.

  • Carry out works in public areas in line with site standards – correctly signed, barriered, cleaned down and cleared ahead of trading hours – and complete making good following plumbing works.

  • Work at all times in accordance with ECG’s Health & Safety policy, site RAMS and the permit to work system.

  • Develop positive working relationships with all stakeholders to enhance the professional reputation of ECG, whilst protecting the St James Quarter brand.

Skills & Qualifications Required

Knowledge & Understanding

  • Time-served commercial plumbing experience gained within a maintenance or building services environment.

     

  • Experience operating in the private FM sector.

     

  • Solid understanding of SFG20 service specification.

     

  • Working knowledge of ACoP L8 water hygiene requirements within a commercial building.

     

  • Strong fault finding and problem-solving skills across domestic water, sanitary and drainage systems.

     

  • Confident operating a tablet-based CAFM system for task management and reporting.

     

  • Excellent customer communication skills.

     

  • Self-starter, able to work on own initiative as a conscientious team player.

     

  • Organised communicator with strong inter-personal skills.

  • High level of verbal, written and numeric skills.

     

  • Retail Destination / Shopping Centre experience (desirable).


Qualifications

  • City & Guilds/NVQ/SVQ: Level 2 or above in Plumbing (Level 3 desirable).

     

  • Water Regulations (WRAS) certification – desirable.

     

  • Legionella / Water Hygiene awareness training – desirable.

     

  • IPAF, PASMA, Confined Spaces and Asbestos Awareness – desirable (training can be provided).
